Downtown Medford Events DowntownMedford.com Calendar of Events http://www.downtownmedford.com/events/ Sun, 12 Oct 2008 12:17:42 The Taste Of History http://www.downtownmedford.com/events/6/21/2008/event-19/ Take a historic walking trip into Downtown Medford's past on June 21st, 2008. The Taste Of History was born during a Medford Urban Renewal Agency Marketing Committee brainstorming session in the fall of 2004. The purpose of the event was to showcase Downtown Medford and feature a walking tour of the historic buildings that had been renovated utilizing the façade grant improvement program that was funded by Medford Urban Renewal Agency. Several of The Medford Urban Renewal Agency Marketing Committee Board Members and a couple of local volunteers worked long and hard to make The Taste Of History become a reality. With little or no funding and just six short months of planning this group of visionaries came together and made the impossible happen for Downtown Medford. In June of 2005, The Taste Of History held its first ever highly successful event in Downtown Medford. Twelve different historic buildings were on the self-guided tour that started in Vogel Plaza and proceeded throughout Downtown. Musicians were on several street corners and in several of the historic locations. Local artists displayed their talents in each of the tour locations. Local and regional wineries, local restaurants and various confectionaries were serving samples at each location on the tour. Participants in The Taste Of History received a commemorative wine glass that they carried with them throughout the tour and took home as a souvenir. Everyone attending said this was one of the best events of its kind and an incredible breakthrough for Downtown Medford. In June of 2006, the tradition continued with another highly successful event in Downtown Medford. With approximately 15 historic locations on the tour, The 2008 Taste Of History promises to be bigger and better than ever. The 2008 Taste Of History will also include more musicians, artists, wineries and food samples. Please join us in celebrating the rich history of Downtown Medford the 2nd Saturday in June. Come see why we say Medford is A City In Bloom! Visit [link http://www.thetasteofhistory.com]thetasteofhistory.com[/link] for more information on the Artists, Wineries and food providers. Tue, 02 Sep 2008 0:00:00 Cantabile - The London Quartet http://www.downtownmedford.com/events/9/27/2008/event-92/ Saturday, September 27, 2008, 8pm Presented by Craterian Performances Sponsored by Avista; Precision Electric Tickets: Section A-$25, B-$22, C-$19, Youth (0-18) A-$19, B-$16, C-$13 "Cantabile," pronounced "Can-TAH-bih-lay" is an Italian musical notation cuing instrumentalists to play "in singing style." This singularly talented vocal ensemble, alternately named The London Quartet, might be said to sing in instrumental style; its sound is so dynamic and full that it seems impossible that only four people are producing it. One of Britain's most celebrated singing groups, Cantabile covers a dazzling array of musical styles, from Renaissance madrigals to Monty Python ditties. These gents are entertainers as well as musicians and spike their concerts with a very British wit, offering shows as slyly playful as they are musically sublime! As critic Tyne Compeyson puts it, "They are masters of the form, in a class by themselves, with a versatile sound rooted in the great English choral tradition." An international hit that has been translated into 26 languages and has spawned five sequels, Nunsense is the second-longest-running show in off-Broadway history. So don?t miss the divine hijinks of the most improbable entertainers ever to strut their stuff on a local stage: Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer, no-nonsense second-in-command Sister Mary Hubert, streetwise Sister Robert Anne, wannabe ballerina Sister Mary Leo, and the ever-forgetful Sister Mary Amnesia. Cherryholmes never fails to dazzle audiences with its blazing mix of fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin, and with its extraordinary command of old-time country music. Winners of the 2005 International Bluegrass Music Association?s "Entertainer of the Year" Award, Cherryholmes captures the essence of bluegrass in both traditional tunes and in new songs penned by lead singer Cia, whose dulcet vocals have been compared to no less a bluegrass goddess than Alison Krauss. As critic Peg Longstreth raves, "Cherryholmes is the single most exciting bluegrass band I have ever heard." Sat, 10 Jan 2009 0:00:00 Movin' Out http://www.downtownmedford.com/events/1/15/2009/event-112/ Thursday, January 15, 2009, 8pm Presented by Craterian Performances Sponsored by Liberty Bank Tickets: Premium $63, Section A-$57, Section B-$51, Section C-$45 This one-of-a-kind, Tony-winning rock ballet tells an all-American story through the well-loved songs of pop icon Billy Joel and the electrifying choreography of modern dance maestro Twyla Tharp. A group of friends from Long Island, each based on a character from one of Joel's songs, comes of age in the turbulent 1960's, learning some hard but life-changing lessons along the way. Tharp's stunningly athletic dancers tell the story as the show's musical narrator, the Piano Man, backed by a hard-driving band, performs Joel's vivid story-songs. Movin' Out is sure to enthrall both lovers of dance and fans of Joel's literate, affecting pop-rock. Due to the depiction of war and a few intimate situations, Movin' Out is recommended for ages 13+. This tribute from The London Times may sound like hyperbole, but anyone who has seen Moschen perform knows he needs only a simple object to make theatrical magic. In the world of juggling, there are many masters, but there is only one Michael Moschen. The New York Times calls him a "genius" and "the Nijinsky of juggling." In fact, the term "juggler" hardly does Moschen justice. He is better described as a juggler-dancer-physicist-sorcerer, who draws on scientific and mathematical principles to create breathtaking feats of manipulation and imagination ? and, in the words of The Village Voice, "to unfurl the secrets of the universe." Don?t miss this amazing, utterly unique show!
