Downtown Parking

Welcome Downtown Visitors

It is the goal of the City of Medford Downtown Parking District and Medford Urban Renewal Agency to make Downtown an inviting place for all guests, while addressing the individual and specific needs of a variety of users, including customers, merchants, employees, residents, students and visitors. The objective is to offer parking amenities that will address a variety of Downtown parking demands.

Let's Talk Free Downtown Parking!

Downtown Medford has free parking for customers, regardless of whether you are parking on the street, in one of the City's parking lots, or in the parking structure. Although you won't find parking meters when pulling up to the curb, please pay attention to the parking time limits posted on Downtown streets. The majority of on-street parking spaces in the Downtown shopping district are for short-term customer use, usually one or two hour time limits.

The City Center's parking lots, located throughout the heart of Downtown, offer two-hour and three-hour free parking. Following the arrows on the green and gold Parking signs at most Downtown intersections will guide you to these free parking lots.

The Middleford Parking Structure located at 6th Street and Riverside Avenue and the Evergreen Parking Facility located at 34 West 8th Street offer leased parking as well as free 3-hour public parking and "Pay and Display" $2.00 all day parking. A downtown visitor has the option to pay $1.00 for 4-hour parking ONLY offered at the "Pay and Display" parking system located in the Evergreen Parking Facility.

For those who want to spend a leisurely day shopping and dining Downtown or are attending classes or meetings that last longer than three hours, there are two facilities located on the east side of Bear Creek next to Hawthorne Park with free, all-day parking.

On evenings, weekends, and holidays, all City-owned parking spaces are open and free to the public.

If I have used my limited time, can I just move my car to another space?

You can, but you'd have to move it to a space on a different block. To keep Downtown's parking available for customers, the City's parking ordinance allows drivers to park in one space up to the posted time limit and then move their car to another space on a different square block. This keeps convenient short-term, on-street and off-street, customer parking areas available throughout the day.

What are my options for longer-term parking?

The southernmost lot on Central Avenue and the ground floor of the Middleford Parking Structure located at 6th Street and Riverside Avenue and the Evergreen Parking Facility located at 34 W. 8th street offer "Pay and Park" parking. The "Pay and Park" system offers a downtown visitor the choice to park all day for $2.00.

A One-Day Parking Permit is available for merchants to "comp" or sell to customers. The cost is $3.00 and is valid for use at all timed City lots. These are currently available to all downtown merchants and customers for direct purchase at:

A Voluntary Customer Parking Validation Program went into effect July 1, 2003. Participating Merchants voluntarily purchase Customer Parking Validation Receipts. Merchants then validate the Customer's citation that was issued for overtime parking while the Customer was conducting business in the Merchant's establishment. The Customer then utilizes the Validation Receipt as payment for the overtime parking citation. Look for Customer Parking Validation Participant stickers in store windows to determine which Merchants are participating in the Program.

All day parking passes are available for those needing longer term parking for $3.00/day and may be used in all non-reserved City parking facilities. Ask your conference center or local merchant about these passes or contact the City's Parking Contractor, Action Security, Inc. at (541) 324-6157 or info@medfordparking.com.

Can I lease a parking space from the City?

Yes, there are several reserved parking facilities located around Downtown, as well as the upper two floors of the Middleford Parking Structure located at 6th Street and Riverside Avenue and the upper two floors of the Evergreen Parking Structure located at 34 W. 8th Street. The City's lease fee is $35 per month per space and is billed quarterly, ($105 every three months). Contact Action Security, Inc. at (541) 324-6157 or info@medfordparking.com for the nearest available parking facility.

I'm working on a building Downtown and need access to my truck. Where should I park?

Contractor parking permits are available for $10 per vehicle per week from the City of Medford Building Safety Department located in Room 277 on the 2nd floor of the Lausmann Annex, 200 S. Ivy Street (right behind City Hall) or they can be contacted at bldmed@ci.medford.or.us. Permits must be placed on the dash of the vehicle in plain view and must state on which property the work is being performed. To minimize disruption to customer parking for surrounding businesses and also cost to the contractor, we recommend purchasing permits only for construction-critical vehicles that must remain near the job site for access to tools, machinery, etc. Non-essential and worker's vehicles may park on the street to drop off tools and equipment and then may be moved to an all-day parking facility such as those by Hawthorne Park.

Where can I get an alley parking permit?

Because Downtown alleys are often the only access for police, fire, and other emergency vehicles, alley parking is prohibited except under certain circumstances. Alley parking permits for service vehicles may be purchased from the Finance Department, located in Room 358 on the third floor of City Hall, 411 West 8th Street, Medford, or they may be contacted at finmed@ci.medford.or.us. Your vehicle, and the type of use, must meet the criteria of a Òservice vehicleÓ to ensure you are authorized to have an alley parking permit.

What should I do if I get a parking ticket Downtown?

Detailed instructions are printed on the reverse side of the citation. Parking fines may be mailed in the pre-addressed envelope received with the citation or delivered to the drop box located on the second floor of City Hall at 411 W. 8th Street and outside of Lausmann Annex, across the street from the Post Office. A drop box is also located on the first floor of the Parking Structure located at 6th Street and Riverside Avenue. Do not send cash - make your check, money order, or cashier's check out to: Medford Parking Enforcement. Another method of payment is utilization of the Validation Parking Citation Receipt, mentioned earlier.

If paid within 10 days, all citations issued in the downtown are $15.00. If after 10 days the fine has not been paid, you waive your right to contest the violation and the fine amount increases to $30.00. If still not paid, the violation may be turned over to a collection agency and the vehicle may be immobilized or impounded. On the reverse side of the citation are directions for appeal.

If you have questions about why you received a parking citation, contact Action Security, Inc. at (541) 324-6157 or at info@medfordparking.com. Leave a detailed message, including the citation number and your phone number. Action Security will return your call.

What do I do if I encounter a car problem while parking in a City parking facility?

The City maintains the "We Care" Parking Program. This program offers anyone whose vehicle is parked in a City owned, off-street parking facility within the Downtown Parking District to telephone Dick's Towing Service at 772-4040 if they encounter a dead battery, a flat tire, or are locked out of their vehicle. Dick's Towing Service is available to assist you 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. The City of Medford's Parking District will pick up the cost - no charge to you!

What does the future look like for Downtown parking?
