RVTD Constructs Bicycle Parking
04.22.09
RVTD has constructed a covered bicycle parking structure on the corner of 9th and Front Streets in Downtown Medford across from RVTD's main hub, Front Street Station. Bicycle parking around Front St. Station is at a premium leading RVTD to expand its bicycle parking through a CMAQ grant. Medford Urban Renewal Agency provided property for location of this and a second structure.
This structure will accommodate 14 bicycles, is covered to provide better protection from the elements and was constructed using Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funds in the amount of $24,000, which also included pouring two concrete pads. A second structure of the same size will be completed under the ARRA stimulus funds RVTD recently received and will be placed on the second concrete pad. Both structures are being made locally.
RVTD is pleased the structure could be completed before warmer weather sets in. Approximately 4% of passengers bicycle to reach the bus and RVTD sees an increase in the summer months. The structure is available to be used by the general public. The second structure will be constructed by the end of 2009.
The structure is located on the corner of City of Medford Downtown Parking District Lot No. 4, which is owned by Medford Urban Renewal Agency.
