    I.
    Roll Call

    1. A meeting of the Medford Urban Renewal Agency Marketing Committee was called to order at 5:40 p.m., in the Medford Urban Renewal Agency Conference Room, 45 South Holly Street, by Chair Doug Bradley, with the following Members and Staff in attendance:

    Minutes

    1. Marketing Committee Minutes of April 19, 2006

    It was moved, seconded and approved to accept the minutes of the April 19, 2006 Marketing Committee meeting as corrected.

    Written Communication

    1. Hoop World

    Staff presented to the Marketing Committee the ?Hoop-it-Up? DVD presentation.

    Staff reported that Rick Coimbra, Account Executive, KOBI, stated to the Medford Urban Renewal Agency Board of Directors on May 9, 2006, that ?Hoop-it-Up? is a great community downtown event, where teams participate in competition basketball 3-on-3 competitions from a wide variety of regions. Dennis Siewert, General Sales Manager, KOBI, reported that last year?s participation in Medford?s first year of ?Hoop-it-Up? was approximately 1600 attendees on Saturday and 1200 on Sunday. There were approximately 312 players. Mr. Siewert stated that the benefit to ?Hoop-it-Up? is that it gets people downtown to frequent shops, restaurants and hotels. KOBI will cover the event live.

    Staff stated that the Medford Urban Renewal Agency Board of Directors supports a contribution of $750.00 and left it up to the Marketing Committee for final disbursement.

    It was moved, seconded, and approved to contribute $750.00 to the Medford second annual ?Hoop-it-Up? event.

    Communications from Committee and Subcommittees

    1. ?Downtown Social?

    Staff reported that the ?Downtown Social? event continues to be a success. The May ?Downtown Social? was held at AMBUS Contemporary Art, compliments of Diane Erickson, Eileen Bowie, Darla Baack and Nancy Jo Mullen. There were 15 people in attendance, including the following:

    A. Announcement of next ?Downtown Social?

    Staff announced that Linda and Jim Heath, from Norris Shoes, will host the June 7, 2006 ?Downtown Social?.

    B. Drawing for Gift Winner

    MURA, in promotion of the ?Downtown Social? and through its Marketing budget, purchases a $35.00 gift certificate from the hosting location. Linda Heath was the May winner of the gift certificate from AMBUS Contemporary Art. Drawings are conducted at Marketing Committee meetings from names of people who attended the last ?Downtown Social?.

    2. Ashland Magazine

    Nancy Passey reported that at the April Marketing Committee meeting she reported that Linda Farland, Ashland Magazine Representative, contacted the Agency requesting a one-page article on Downtown Medford . Ms. Passey distributed a copy of the one-page article for the Marketing Committee?s review at the April Marketing Committee meeting for the Committee to review.

    3. Banners and Posters: ?The Taste of History?

    Nancy Passey stated that ?The Taste of History? banners had been picked-up for installation the week of May 22, 2006.
    Nancy Passey reported that she had distributed ?The Taste of History? posters.

    There was a brief discussion of the possibility of using the Craterian Ginger Rogers marquee to advertise ?The Taste of History? event.

    4. Art in Bloom: Committee Comments

    Members of the Marketing Committee that attended the Art in Bloom Festival reported that the event was ?awesome?, restaurants were packed and there was a huge attendance.

    5. ArTrain: Report

    Members of the Marketing Committee who attended the ArTrain expressed the exhibit was ?fine?. The advertising of the ArTrain left the impression that the exhibit was FREE but it was $5.00 to view the exhibit.

    VI.
    Communication from HMA

    1. HMA Representative Report

    · Grower?s Market, Eric Maxwell, President of HMA, reported that the HMA sponsored Saturday Market begins May 20, 2006 and goes through September 30, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Bartlett Street.

    · 1st and 3rd Fridays, Eric Maxwell reported that the 1st and 3rd Friday is slowly taking off. There has been a good response. The 1st Friday focuses on furniture and fashion and the 3rd Friday focuses on the Arts.

    · ?The Taste of History? was discussed earlier

    · Sidewalk Sale will be July 27 through 29, 2006

    · Etc., Eric Maxwell reported that he would like to see a Trick or Treat event for children downtown the Saturday before Halloween. A brief discussion of a haunted house followed.

    · Holiday Bazaar, November 24 and 25, 2006.
