KOBI, Channel 5, went on the air as the first VHF television station in the state of Oregon over 46 years ago in 1953. It has had a rich history of serving the people of Southern Oregon and Northern California. Its signal ranges from Mr. Shasta in the south to Cottage Grove in the north, and from the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean. It provides 31 translators to repeat its NBC signal to the mountainous areas of our region. KOBI has a staff of 59--comprised of news, sales, production, engineering and administration. The station is the only locally owned television entity in the Medford market. It owns microwave links that stretch from Portland to Redding with reciprocal news arrangements with Portland?s KGW, Northwest Cable News, its sister stations KLSR and KEVU in Eugene, and KRCR in Redding.
